The third IGCHE Summer School / India Study Abroad Programme took place from 6 to 19 September 2026, organised by the PSG Institute of Management in Coimbatore in cooperation with IGCHE. Fourteen students from nine universities of the German Consortium for International Cooperation (DHIK) joined us this year.

Coimbatore is one of South India's major textile and engineering clusters, with close industrial ties to Germany. The PSG institutions are among the largest and most established in the region and well beyond it. Few places offer a closer view of one of the world's fastest growing economies and of the role India is taking on the global stage.

In the classroom, PSG lecturers and invited guest speakers covered entrepreneurship, Indo-German business, emerging technologies and spirituality, the latter with a focus on India's diversity and the role spirituality plays in everyday life.

On the industry side, the group looked behind the scenes at the automotive supplier Pricol and at two textile factories in Tiruppur, where the students followed the process from cotton processing to the finished garment. Iyal Farms in Pollachi, an organic coconut farm, showed how the nuts are turned into products such as jaggery and coconut oil, and at Annapoorna, one of Tamil Nadu's best-known hotel and restaurant chains, the group toured both the kitchen and the hotel.

Outside the classroom and the factories, temples and historical sites left time for the architecture that shapes them, and the trips to Cochin and Ooty added the landscape: the Arabian Sea on one side of the Western Ghats, the tea plantations of the Nilgiris on the other.

Another highlight was the exchange between the German students and the Indian IGCHE students at PSG. They attended sessions together, spent their free time on campus and off it, and showed each other how studying and everyday life work in their respective countries. Along the way they made contacts that will outlast the programme.

For anyone thinking about joining next year: the programme is open to students of all DHIK universities, regardless of subject or semester. The requirements are a good command of English, motivation and an interest in India. Participants earn 3 ECTS credits that can be transferred to their home university. Applications open in spring 2027, and details on costs and organisation will follow shortly. 105 Students enrolled in PSGIAS GST this year in all five programs: Automobile Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineering. This marks a further increase in the figures, which we are very pleased about.

His Excellency Dr. Philipp Ackermann, Ambassador of Germany to India, and Mr. Michael Hasper, Consul General, German Consulate, Chennai, visited PSG IAS German School of Technology this afternoon.

They talked to the German language teaching staff and interacted with the students. The visit was very interesting for both sides, the visitors expressed their appreciation for the institution’s service to Germany through the Indo-German bilingual engineering programs.

The Embassy of India in Berlin and various student associations in Germany recently founded the Indian Students in Germany (ISG) initiative. ISG aims to:

• Share information on visas, scholarships, job opportunities, cultural events, and more.
• Provide emergency contacts for Indian students in Germany.
• Connect students with potential employers in India and Germany.

IGCHE students in Germany should register at the ISG portal to receive valuable information.

90 Students enrolled in PSG GST this year, in Automobile Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineering. They will study at PSG IAS for three years and learn German at the PSG German Language Centre before they switch to Germany for their final year.

Last Friday they paid a visit to the Westphalian University. Nine computer science, seven robotics and two mechanical engineering students, accompanied by their PSG German language teachers Dr. Suganthi and Mrs. Pavithra, visited faculty labs and also Halle 1, a lab run by students where they can realise any project they have on their minds.

Trips to Amsterdam, Luxemburg, Bingen and other European cities are part of the itinerary, too. The Summer School in Germany will certainly boost their language proficiency and study confidence.

The joint bilingual Bachelor's programmes of PSG and IGCHE, which have been successful for years, now finally have a home. With the PSGIAS German School of Technology, these programmes will continue to grow and cooperation in the education of students will be intensified. Representatives from over twenty German DHIK universities, the DAAD, the German Indian Round Table Coimbatore, Goethe-Institut and of course students, teachers and leaders from PSG took part. The Chief Guest was Dr Kathrin Misera-Lang, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Chennai.
